I have health issues, can I have a treatment?

Can a therapist help diagnose any health issues?
Complementary therapists CANNOT offer a diagnosis and DO NOT claim to cure you. Reflexology, Massage and Bach remedies are complementary form of therapy which can help improve your overall sense of well-being. If you’re concerned about any physical or psychological symptoms, you should always consult your GP.
Can these treatments heal me?
These complementary therapies do not heal but assists the body to heal itself. The human body is designed to function on its own and to balance itself without outside influences. Our daily lifestyles interfere with the body’s own ability to heal itself so allowing the body to reset and rebalance it will start to heal itself.
Do I have to be completely undressed form my treatment?
For a Reflexology treatment you only need to undress your feet!
For your Massage treatment you should undress to the level you are comfortable. Most clients leave their underwear on, you will be covered by towels during the treatment and I will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the massage table.
Can I talk during my reflexology or massage treatment?
Yes, if you’d like to talk go right ahead. The important thing to remember is that this treatment is all about you relaxing and enjoying the experience. My hope is that you relax, let your mind float free and enter a state of deep relaxation. In many instances, people may feel more relaxed starting off talking, and as the treatment progresses, enter quiet states of relaxation.
The important issue here is that there are times when you need to speak up. If the treatment is making you uncomfortable, you should let me know immediately. Also, let me know if you get too warm or too cold, if the room is too bright, or if the pressure needs to be changed (lighter or deeper).
If something is not working for you – speak up! It’s OK!
Will the treatment hurt?
For Reflexology a light but firm pressure is used to massage the reflex points on the foot and lower leg.
A relaxing massage doesn’t probe very deep into the muscles, and shouldn’t hurt. With that being said, there is a ‘feels good’ hurt and an ‘ouch, stop it’ hurt. A good massage, even a really deep tissue massage, should always stay in the ‘feels good’ hurt range. Pain can be an indication that the muscle is possibly injured or inflamed and pressure should be adjusted. Also, pain can cause you to tighten up and negate the relaxing effects of the massage. The most effective and deepest massage always works with your body’s natural response, not against it.
What if I am ticklish?
I use firm, confident movements as I apply pressure. These deep, concise motions aren’t designed to feel ticklish, so are suitable for most people and I use a variety of oils, lotions or waxes for my treatments.
If in doubt please call me and you can pop in for a 5 minute taster session on your feet.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you will need before you begin experiencing the benefits can vary from person to person. Some people may notice the benefits straight away, while others find that their mood and sleep patterns improve over the course of multiple sessions. This can be discussed further at your appointment.
How often should I have a treatment?
This varies from person to person. Some people may find 4 or 6 weekly sessions help, while others may benefit from more regular treatments like every 2 weeks – it all depends on your financial situation, stress levels, and overall reason for getting a treatment.
What should I do after my treatment?
Over the next 24 hours following your treatment, make sure to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. Try to avoid any strenuous exercise, and rest for at least two hours after your treatment.
Drinking tea, coffee, alcohol, or other stimulating drinks can diminish the effectiveness of your session, so try to avoid these if possible. Focus on eating light, nutritious foods to help your body continue to heal. If you plan on having any further treatments, take note of any reactions or side effects you may experience to share with your therapist in your next session.
